I have a 1999 ford ranger xlt 4x4 it has recently started to have a high pitch squeak coming from the front driver side. The faster I go the faster the squeak gets. I can only hear it when I am going straight or turning left, when I turn right the squeak goes away. If anyone knows what this may be please let me know.

 

Front brake pads have a metal "wear bar", when brake pads get worn down the metal bar hits the rotor, this causes a high pitch squeal when wheel/rotor is turning, faster the wheel turns the higher/louder it gets.
When you turn the pads/rotor shift slightly so noise can go away.
The noise is a warning to "change the pads soon"

Turn the wheel so you can see brake pads, or pull off the wheels and check pads.

 

I just got my brakes done last yeard and I took them apart yesterday cleaned everything and the noise is still there.

 

Could it be a wheel bearing?

 

Typically a wheel bearing would be constant, no matter which way your wheel is turned, but its possible. Jack that tire up and see if it has play in it with no load

 

'98-'00 PVH used "lifetime" wheel bearings so..........you replace the whole hub if you have bearing failure.
They are about $50-$60

There are two kinds, if you have 4 wheel ABS then you need the ones with ABS sensor built-in, if you only have rear ABS then you use the ones without ABS sensor.
