Help!

Im trying to replace the boots on my CV shaft..

so i got that little pos plastic washer out of the hub, that holds in the CV shaft.

then i started pulling the CV shaft out of the hub, and it got hung up within say, the last inch of the hub.. im scared to pull/push too hard because i dont want to ruin the $250+ hub assembly..

any suggestions? should i just wiggle it more.. idk what to do. the last thing i need to do is ruin the CV shaft and the hub.. go from a $25 fix to $325+ fix...

oh and there are those little skinny metal washer looking things on the CV shaft, what are those? i already destroyed one..

Im getting fed up with working on my truck after the lift..
-its a PITA to find a good place to jack from/jeep the jack stands
-it took me 3-4 hours to get the front diff out, used to only be a 30 minute job
-the oil pan wont come out, its stuck between the cross member and the exhaust

idk what else there is to ***** about right now.

a picture on 'almost out' lol no, how did i know that was going to be the first response?

and no others? shat.. anyways

i got it out.. and theres a new problem, sorry if the pics are fuzzy...

there are the little washer looking things, made out of THIN metal, now they are broken/mangled and one is stuck in the bearings.. im going to get it out one way or another, but my question is, were they part of the hub, or the CV shaft, and are they vital? i don't have the PHV crap anymore..

oh yea, one more question, is there a trick to getting the crimped on clamp off the cv shaft? the farthest one on the ends.. the inner ones have a place to get leverage.. not the outers.. sorry no pics. i can get one if yall REALLLLY need it

hey matt, first off I would pull the hub assembly off, it's only a couple of bolts and that would take care of that problem...that way you have a little more room to work, also those metal "thingies" are snap rings, and you have to have those in there, it is a secondary retainer to hold your CV axle from moving around. Also try a rubber mallet and hit it gently back in and see if it's binding up on some sand/mud/crap. Clean it out, and try it again.

lol...damn those metal retainers are just like a spring....you have to find the lip of it, and then "un-snake it * off of the shaft.

FWIW, the easiest way i have found to pull the CV the last lil bit out is to pop the upper balljoint.

no, i think i can salvage my hub.. i was trying to get it out to replace the outer boot, and to do that u have to replace the inner boot..

i talked to RangerNVS on the phone, looks like Krawltex f*cked up again.. they put the little plastic washer in back wards, and put the little coiled up springy metal washer thing in behind it instead of in front of it

im NEVER going back to them to have it worked on haha
