Clutch break in

I finally got a Spec clutch in the range and was curious what you guys think for a break in period? Spec says a minimum of 500 miles of city driving and I have to make a 60 mile, mostly highway, trip back home on Thursday. Would this put too much heat into the clutch too soon?

Thanks guys,

John

Well are there any backroads that you can take home? I would try hat if you can, but if your easy on it I can't see it hurting it too much. I believe the reason they tell you that is because they do not want the friction plates to glaze over.

Yeah the trip is just country roads pretty much, but no stop and go. I'm going to try to put as much time on it around town as I can.

John....I didn't start beating on my specII til about the 500mi mark. Just take it easy and driving around town or highway...whatever....my breakin was mostly highway as well. so like....waste some fuel driving around corv or newb....city traffic.

Just drove it.... But as shane says, it's not even broke in yet.... I'd like to drive it when it's broke in!

Drives like a brand new truck though.... Responsive, quiet, fast, stealthy, shiny....

It's weird being followed by my truck... But fun!

I didn't see you take that other pic. Very nice.

Thanks Shane, yeah I'll just bomb around town for a while over the next few days. Did your pedal feel any firmer?

Honestly John, take it back and tell them to re-bleed your slave... It feels too soft to me.

Driving a stock clutch truck, I feel comfortable saying the pedal is firmer, as it is pushing a heaver duty pressure plate. And clutch is definately ALOT grabbier.

Come up to PDX this week or weekend and i'll show ya what this clutch can do...put it to the seat of your pants meter. The shifts....OH MY GOD...the shifts!! SOOOOO grabby.

Yeah I might. I think I'll drive with it for a while and see if there is any change as everything seats in. The engagement feels nice and crisp, I just would have expected a firmer pedal from a performance clutch.

Oh...and highway driving wont put too much heat on it too soon....clutch disc just stays there rotating with the flywheel and transmission....

it's the starting from a stop and shifting you need to take it easy on.

Yeah - for the Spec clutch - I burned mine in doing the normal to work and back driving, did that for about a month - got to abuse it today in some heavy traffic trying to scoot in between some lanes to get to my turning lane... Spec Stage 2 Clutches kick some serious rear end - grabs like a son of a gun and let you go go go! :-D
