Hope its not to late

I recently changed the vacuum diaphragm on my 94 ranger A4Ld tranny. The new one i put in did not have a new control rod with it so when it came out of the old i thought it wasn't needed. Now my truck shifts worse then it did before and i lost the old control rod. Can i buy a new rod or make one or was it supposed to come with the new one.

Are you talking about the modulator valve? If so, it should be adjustable just like a fuel pressure regulator. Make sure you have good vacuum on it as well.

I don't think there is an adjustment on it. its the one on the side of the transmission where you have to remove the heat shield to put it in.

it is a brassy finish with a vacuum line on one end and an o-ring on the other? the part where the vacuum line connects, there should be a set screw and or a nut there. that is the adjuster

Jared, I just replaced my modulator and the modulator control rod stayed in the tranny. Was yours attached to the modulator or did you pull it out separately?
