hydrolic clutch
Stalled at a stop sign. Starter went click but wouldn't crank. Old starter shot so new one installed. However, master clutch cylinder found to be empty. Filled it and bled it and bled it some more. It operates BUT engages immediately above the floor and lacks compression the whole upper range of its travel. What's up?

Your symptoms sound like it still has an air bubble in the system somewhere the ranger clutches are very finicky since the line comes up over the frame rail which creates a perfect pocket of air. The official way to bleed it is to remove master cylinder assembly and bench bleed while it hangs straight down. (To eliminate high spots that trap air) I used the easy method and just cracked the bleeder screw and poured four reservoir fulls of fluid through it and eventually the air worked itself out its kindy messy and wasteful but trust me it is way messier and annoying to remove the whole master cylinder.

No problem also since the reservoir is empty id bet there is a leak somewhere most likely the slave inside the trans id fill it up and bleed it and keep an eye on it to see if it leaks. The slaves are notorious on these trucks you can get a decent look at it by removing the rubber seal on the left of the bell housing.
