i hear strange noises

so i have an 01 xlt and im hearing some weird noises. it usually does it from a complete stop but im getting a weird noise in 1st gear. the truck's automatic and in 1st up to about 3000 rpm's i hear this noise almost like a piece metal hitting against the truck, but it only does it when im moving slow and i cant find anything loose under there. sometimes i get the noise coasting to a stop too. i have a 2'' shackle lift on the back so i didnt know if it could be my u-joint getting messed up or what. Any ideas?

is it like a rattle or a squeek, or a thump? is there a vibration?

its more like a rattle, and i dont have any vibration, and its not slipping gears or hesitating or anything.

it could just be a loose heat sheild on your exhaust. my truck has a heat sheild that clips onto the side of the tranny near the exhaust and it fell off onece and rattled around under there. there are a couple of them under there

Tap your exhaust with a broom handle and see if it rattles...

i had a knockoff flowmaster put on my truck and now when i rev it up it sounds like theres a thin piece of metal flappin around in there. guess its from their welds

Ya, my truck makes the rattle to. I think it is those heat sheilds on it. I might just rip them off some day.

idk i just looked at it and theres no loose heat shields, but i have new exhaust on there, a crappy glass pack. idk if its the crap muffler or what, my exhaust is rock solid, like i could do pull ups on it, but idk about the welds. hey kymuder08, on your flowmaster, does it only do it when you accelerate from a stop, or does it do it all the time?

by the way, when i redid my exhaust, i left the rubber hangers on from the original exhaust and i thought maybe thats what it was but i cut those off just now and nothing has changed. it almost sounds like a single bb in a pop can until you get to about 20 mph and it turns into almost a chirp noise, like it changes with speed, but always goes away after about 5 seconds. when i slow to a stop it sounds more like a thunk, with a lower pitch than when i accelerate.

I had a similar noise . Heard it mainly when I started rolling up to about 30 mph. The balance weight on a rear brake drum fell off and rattled around between the drum and rim.
