I screwed up!

Hi guys, I got my hands on a 2009 ford ranger xl 2.3 liter autmatic trans. 17,000 miles . I noticed it was revving a little high shifting from first to second and second to third.(2800 rpms) a while later it was shifting at 3000 after that 3200 . at that point i said " I have a problem" so i decided to take off valve body and check it out (never done this before) I cleaned it (no dirt or anything really ) put it back together and had no movement in any gear except for second when shifting manually.
truck moved about 100 feet and stopped. at this point I just wanted to get it back in the driveway. truck wouldnt move so I called tow truck and took it to automatic trans guy. he said I made a few mistakes with valve body. but when he road tested the truck he found it jerked when ever it shifted into any gear. this guy already had my truck three days just to fix valve body and I was fed up with him. was telling me he wanted to rebuild trans. Im thinking with this guy that would take about a month. no way! I drove the truck home and found he was right about the jerking and reverse has little or no power. You think maybe they put the valve body together wrong also, maybe a selenoid that they didnt check. or was he right I actually DO need a rebuild?
thanks in advance steve

sounds like you need to call a few other shops and get multiple opinions. Most will say they need to look at it but if your clear in your description and can tell the guy exactly when it does it and what youve done he should be able to tell you what is fubared. Seems every town has that one shop that the guy knows trans like the back of his hand.
