i have an 01 3.0 5 spd 2wd with an 3.73 open diff. Last few months my truck has been slipping under low rpm acceleration, i thought it might be the clutch or trans but yesterday my rear end started clicking and my truck vibrates at high speeds now.

My question is, if i already need new rear end gears, how much more would it be to get 4.10 gears with a limited slip or is it even possible to install that in my rear end?

I also need new tires so i was gonna get 4.10 gears and throw some 31s on the truck

Also not looking to install a locker, i dont do any offroading but looking to get rid of that one wheel spin when i am off the pavement

 

It's possible and depending on where you have the install done they might not charge any more for labor. I know I wouldn't charge any more. Obviously, you'd have to buy a limited slip too.

 

what about parts wise? more expensive or about the same?

 

Gears would be the same price regardless. The increased parts cost would be determined by whether or not you bought a limited slip.

I think it would be cheaper to find a stock rear end with low miles 4.10s and a LS. then its just a matter of swapping the axle.

 

well turns out all the racket i was hearing was just my u joints! haha much cheaper fix and needless to say i wont be upgrading the rearend

 

but didnt you say it was slipping at low rpms

 

yea it is still doing that but i dont think its the rearend, maybe coil or something electrical, not real sure mechanic is unsure aswell

 

turns out i just needed a coil!
