I have an arc welder, just heard that welding the spiders could potentially shred the pinion and ring gear.

Just make sure you weld the spiders...not the ring and pinion haha.

stomping on it on asphalt and a welded diff is just asking for problems, if you dont have the torque to just light the tires to shreds! (like most rangers)

Why not just get an 8.8 with factory LS?

Tons better then your open 7.5

Well since you have a 7.5 you're in the same boat with my friend with the welded diff. he is running a welded 7.5 until he grenades it and will just get an 8.8.

Weld it! He's been running about a year on it now. What'll happen? just hurt a 7.5, oh well!! It'll be way more cost effective instead of putting a $400 locker into a diff that is worth $50 on a good day, and is just as likely to break as being welded.

Well, a LS isn't gonna do anything for me. I'mthinkin I'm gonna go with a weld if your buddy has run his for a year. I'll just have to lay some thick welds and grind and reweld to get some nice consistency I suppose. Any advice on welding spider gears???

X2 why not LS? Unless your tires are coming off the ground, then a good factory L/S will work well for you.

But if you are going to weld the spiders, ahh hell just don't do it, spend the money right the first time and get an 8.8, even if it is one from a ranger.

WHY do ANYTHING to a 7.5...

As stated above...get a 8.8. Can be had from a junkyard for no more than $100 or $150. Might come with limited slip..might not. Then you can put in a lunchbox like a Lock Right. Explorer(31 spline) or Ranger(28spline), both have LOTS of options out there for differentials.

So..go ahead...get something for the 7.5. Then blow it up. Then be out all that money you just threw away by putting in a locker only to just upgrade to an 8.8 anyway. Then be out even more money.
