Well since you have a 7.5 you're in the same boat with my friend with the welded diff. he is running a welded 7.5 until he grenades it and will just get an 8.8.
Weld it! He's been running about a year on it now. What'll happen? just hurt a 7.5, oh well!! It'll be way more cost effective instead of putting a $400 locker into a diff that is worth $50 on a good day, and is just as likely to break as being welded.

Why won't a LS work?

But if you are going to weld the spiders, ahh hell just don't do it, spend the money right the first time and get an 8.8, even if it is one from a ranger.

WHY do ANYTHING to a 7.5...
As stated above...get a 8.8. Can be had from a junkyard for no more than $100 or $150. Might come with limited slip..might not. Then you can put in a lunchbox like a Lock Right. Explorer(31 spline) or Ranger(28spline), both have LOTS of options out there for differentials.
So..go ahead...get something for the 7.5. Then blow it up. Then be out all that money you just threw away by putting in a locker only to just upgrade to an 8.8 anyway. Then be out even more money.
