So yesterday hit up a few more junkyards and look what jumped into the bed of my truck








after i wash my truck ill get some new pics up
but the swap was fairly easy me and 1 other buddy were able to finish it in about 3-4hours or so i didnt install the sway bar since i didnt get all the parts and i forgot the rest of the parking brake so i dont have a parking brake either and i have to put my stock shackles on cuz i got a little lift in the rear but over all im happy what do ya'll think

 

looks good.. i wanna pull the bed off mine too and clean the frame and smooth out the ripple in the side..if i had more income i'd be hitting the junkyards too as mine needs new rear leaf springs.

Did you have to weld on new shock mounts or was it just a straight up swap?

 

explorer axles are always weld on shock tabs

had to weld on tabs but its nice very happy with the swap but i need new shocks anyways so thats next

 

when you do a swap like that do you lose your anti locl brakes ?

 

same gearing as the previous axel or did you swap gears too?

All you need to do is screw out the push rod on the master cylinder a little but, since the disc brake calipers require a little more fluid to engage than the drum brake wheel cylinders. If you have a manual like me and depend on you p brake, then you have to get creative with the cables and brackets as well since the Exploder cables are shorter and will not interchange with the Ranger's drum brake p brake cables.

also how would i go about getting my parking brake working?
get the rest of the expo p-brake or can i adjust it at the pedal??

 

Most end up using the Expo parking brake cable "Y" and retro fitting it to the ranger cable front half(side of frame) using cable clamps.

When I do the expo brakes, I plan on making a nice detailed how-to on the least covered topics(like parking brake).

 

Here is my p-brake bracket for the Exploder cables. It had to be moved further back than the original location. I have 64" springs so my front spring hanger is 6 inches further forward than it was stock.

 

so i need to get the "Y" from the expo and fab a bracket??
o and btw bleeding the brake was not as hard or time consuming as i was led to belive
when i went and got it i had the guy cut the metal part of the brake line and that crimped it and allowed no air or fluid to enter or escape =)
i did flush 2 bottles trhough it to get the old stuff out though

 

Shouldn't need to fab a bracket...don't think you do anyhow. I was going to use the expo's bracket through the front spring bolt, then upen up the connector that goes in between the cable sections on the side of the frame. Would make a factory looking install, which is what i'm after for all my mods pretty much. Plumcrazy needed to make a bracket because of his longer leafs and his mount moving.

 

I dont think the cables were long enough to reach the stock location either, but that could be because of the lift
