Loud roaring after replacing hub.
Loud roaring after replacing hub.
I have a 2003 Ranger FX4 172k miles. I replaced the driver side hub two weeks ago, everything went fine. Today. I replaced the passenger side hub. I put everything together, torqued the hub nut to spec, and went for a test drive. I'm getting this roaring from the front end. The best thing I can compare it to is like agressive tread tires. It's not noticable until I reach 45mph, peaks at 50, then decreases and it's barely noticeable at 60MPH. Anyone have an ideas what could be wrong?
Take it apart, clean it, look for hot spots. if its all good then try reassembly and test drive again. sounds like it got torqued a little bit too much. or the something is slipping when it shouldn't be. Usually hear it at the lower speeds more but it also can be in a specific range.
I took it apart, checked everything, and still does it. I'm not really sure how to describe this sound, it's more of a constant vibration, not a shaking vibration, but a solid one, I can feel it in the floorboard and in the steering wheel. When I replaced this side, I beat the hell out of the rotor trying to get it broke free. I plan on replacing them in a week or so anyway. Could I have damaged the rotor bad enough that it spinning is giving off a vibration?
what were you striking the rotor with? (at our shop we never his a rotor with anything than a rubber mallet) and if you brake does it vibrate more so then driving? maybe take that rotor off and bring it to a shop, they will usually spin it for free to tell you if its warped, and if it is, depending on how bad it is, i would just get it cut.
I was hitting it with a 5lb sledge haha... I know, not the right thing to use, but I have nothing else, and these rotors are original to the truck, and need replaced anyway, so no big deal. It does vibrate when I stop, but it's a totally different vibrate, when the brakes applied teh truck shakes side to side, has for awhile... without the brakes applied, it's a constant smooth vibration.
well I would get new rotors first and see if it goes away, then if it doesn't then maybe it is a bad hub
