3.73 LSRD with 35's??
Hey, so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to technical stuff with my gears and gear ratios etc. Bottom line is right now I'm running 33's. I have the 3.73 gears with the limited slip differential that was a factory option when I placed the order for my truck (2008 Sport 4x4).
Obviously I noticed some change in my torque and power, yet if i put my foot down I can still get the thing moving pretty damn fast considering.... However.. I was thinking about upgrading to 35's... Maybe quite a way down the road after adding a BL to my superlift, shackles and prekey... or possibly when I replace my worn out MTZ's and just filling in the fenders a little more..
So im just curious if you think it would be way too much for the gears... if running tires that much larger would have a seriously negative impact on my drivetrain etc etc... Basically fill me in on anything you think is cause for concern, whether I would be ill advised to run 35's. Thanks all

I ran 35's on 3.73's with a 3.0 for a while... it's slow... but not as bad as most would have you think.
If you re-gear i would advise to get an 8.8 as well if you don't already have one.
I ran my setup for a while then went to an 8.8 with 4.88's, axle was $150 gears were $350 install was $250 IIRC, so... around $750 total... but I'm 2WD... so around 1,350 for a 4wd...

Otherwise, I am kind of in the same spot you are, I have 3.73's L/S. I have my SL sitting in the garage. I keep going back and fourth, to SL with 33's with my 3.73s or SL+BL with 35's and WAIT a bit longer until I can afford a gear swap. The way i WANT my truck to be is double lifted on 35's, so it might be worth it to just wait so it's the way i want it.

Go with 4.88s for 35s. Generally speaking for Rangers, 4.10 work well with 31s, 4.56 work well with 33s and 4.88 work well with 35s.
I ran 4.88s with 33s on my sport trac (4.0L auto) and it worked just fine, although I sometimes wished for either 4.56 gears or 35" tires to bring the rpms down slightly on the freeway.
A gear change in a 4x4 ranger in the states normally runs from $1200-1500.

Thanks for all the info guys.. a little confused on some of the content lol... for example.. what's an 8.8?? and I assume lockers would just mean that both my left and right wheel would be "locked" in with eachother.. next step up from limited slip???
and I do A LOT of highway driving.. I'm a carpenter so I go where the work goes.. and sadly right now I live an hour out from Toronto, Canada's largest city.. So 85% of my work is in that area... until i complete my dream by moving north to cottage country to build multimillion dollar cottages for the rich and famous. :) then I'll be rock crawling my way into work. But for now, loads of highway km.. truck is a year and a half old and has 67000km on it.
