Manual T-Case conversion

Can a T-case in a '98 Ranger 4x4 be converted to a manual T-Case so I have the lever on the floor instead of the unreliable electronic switch?

Yes. You have to replace the whole transfer case though. You'll need the t-case, shift linkage, front driveshaft, shift boots, and floor plate.

Since there is a way you can shift an electronic case into 4x4 using a wrench, I'm sure there is SOME way that it can be done, but it would probably take a good bit of customizing...

Take the shift motor off and turn the **** thing with a wrench. Gotta crawl under the truck to do it. Can't imagine why anyone would want to do it that way unless their shift motor didn't work.

Do a google search. Some guy on an explorer forum had a way he rigged up a cable that went down to the T-Case. The bad thing about the cable is it wasn't a push/pull type, it was one you have to twist to make the T-Case shift. It didn't look very practical. Manual transfer cases can be had for a few $100. I'm going to try to pick one up for my truck for when my electric motor screws me.
