Manual Tranmission Swaps: 4Cyl. to 3.0L?

I have a '93 2wd Ranger with a 3.0L engine in it. The transmission is toast, the gears that turn the counter shaft are stripped, main front bearing is sloppy, and there was no fluid in it.

Now, I know that the I have the "M" trans code, as do the '91+ 3.0L Rangers. I was wondering if anyone knew if the transmission from an 88+ 4 cylinder Ranger with the same "M" code would have the same internals and be usable for a swap into my 3.0L Ranger? I have done a lot of searching and I'm speculating that the 4 Cylinders had weaker syncronisers, but the source of this information is not reliable.

I'm going to be visiting a Ford dealership today if I don't find out before I leave and see if they could be of any aid. I will post back with my findings.

EDIT: Well Ford was inconclusive and told me I was best to stick with what I got. Looks like I'll have to have it rebuilt.
