Maybe trans issue

Hello all,

I have a 4x2 '87 Ranger with the 2.9 and 5 speed. The truck runs and drives great, but I have had an issue come up when accelerating. I have racked my brain trying to find an adjective to describe this issue, but can't find one. The best way to describe it is when accelerating in 2nd, someone hits the brake, like a quick, hard jab. It is violent, but only lasts half a second. But the real kicker is it only happens once a week, if that. I don't know where in the drive train its coming from. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum

Doesn't read like a transmission issue or rear axle issue they don't tend to be intermittent

Could be spark loss, or other electric issue

Thank you for this info, I didn't know that. Guess I will start with electrical, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
