my 5 speed fills sloppy,,help
my 5 speed fills sloppy,,help
Is it normal for the 5speed 1994 to feel sloppy when I shift. It isnt tight like the mustang I used to have. Is there anything i can do to improve the firmness of the handle when I shift? I feel it go into gear, but I can move it back and forth when it is in gear.
Anyway...i have a bias here.....
but....
there's those restoration kits on ebay that replace all the shifter bushings and plates and stuff. They are really cheap. I know that Redneckstone and Teradorwhat's his name put it on his truck...and they shift like new!

Do you have a link to the kit?
the hurst is nice but has to many issues for me..
1) stock unit is the vent and hurst doesnt allow it to vent and the seal blows constantly
2) it rattles
3) its not long enough for my liking.
personally i like the stock arm. most likely you need the bushing rebuild kit.
like so:

^^ this kit is missing some pieces.
most kits dont come with the spring washing you will need to reuse that. but this kit is missing the new bolts and flat washers.
here is the how to:

personally i wouldnt knock those guide pins all the way out just so you can get the bushings in, then easy knock back in. being the trans case right there is alum and you dont really want to be railing on it
