My rear axle specs??

not sure about this but somebody told me that your dif. gearing can be determined by a tag on the cover. mine says V3 33B. now i have a 2002 XLT 4x4 and pretty sure with limited slip so i dont think they would put 3.33 in my truck.
so...to get to my point the tag on the door says R7 axle and the v3 33B thing(i also found that code on my axle housing i guess you could call it) can anyone one explain all this hoopla to me? thanks
again: r7 axle V3 33B

there should be another line on your diff tag

for instance 4L10 88 is possible for you, meaning 4.10 limited slip 8.8 axle

look again and maybe clean it off some, make sure its not under the diff cover bolt

The R7 is the axle code, it SHOULD tell you what you have, but there have been many instances where the door code did NOT actually match the axle, so your best bet is the tag on the diff itself. i do now know what R7 stands for specifically, but someone else may. im going to edit your title some so people who do know will come and help

do you have any pics of your truck?? its possible the previous owner did a torsion bar crank. if you check out my website (link in sig) there are a bunch of pics of my truck, the most recent ones i had add a leafs in the back and a torsion crank in the front, with 32 inch tires. with the bed cap, it sat pretty level with the add a leafs

mine doesnt set level and i have the stiffest torsion bars (1) so i dont know...theres a road i drive everyday where pine roots have gotten under so theres smallish bumps and these are pretty rough but my friend in his 2wd tacoma says theyre rough in his truck too so i dont know. when i added the cat-back i gained so much lower end torque so that coupled with the 4.10L i could seriously beat anything off the line so i just dont know

R7 is the factory axle code for an 8.8" 4.10 L/S. Lots of axle info here:

its a beautiful thing being able to beat just about anyone off the line (all these Hemis and 5.2L Jeeps) of course the 5-speed helps also.

ok after reading this i decided to go look at my axle tags to see what i had and the tag has 10 88 3L12 and the sticker inside the door says 97. and i starting thinking what the F*** is going on hear its the factory rear end because i bought it new last winter and all the paper works says its a 4.10 and correct me if i am wrong but i didnt think there was a 3.12 gear avaible and i know that i read the right tag on the rear end there is only a sticker with a bar code and the medal tag and the numbers punched in it held on the of the diff bolts. i was thinking that someone probably made the wrong tag anyone else have any thoughts.
