Rear Slip Diff. - Good Price - Good Condition??

Well I got the 8.8 off an 04' Ranger Edge. I believe it's 28 but I could be wrong, it might be 31 :( I'm about to get my new gears installed into the 8.8 and I wanted to buy this too since it's such a bargain but I don't know if it's in good condition or not.
I think I might be able to talk this guy down to $25, cus something tells me this rear slip diff isn't in working order right now since he's selling so cheap..

Update!
Alright I called the guy and he said it's an 8.8 out of an F150 and it's still in good condition. He said I shouldn't need to rebuild it. He has a 9' rear end now and that's why he took this out of his old 8.8 when he changed it to sell it.
So I'm guessin it's 31' spline? And my 8.8 is 28?
Will it still work?
