Need Trans help BAD...

Ok.. here is the problem... 1993 2.3L with i beleave an R1 (Someone correct me if i am wrong please!!)

the lower shifter "stud" that goes into the trans is mechined so the shifter bolt mounts Front/Back

like so

Ok newer trucks have it mounted from Side/Side...

ok i am getting some people that says i can just swap this part off a newer truck onto mine then i can have a "newer" style shifter....

there has to be a trans god out there, that knows of this part and if there is a difference... PLEASE i beg of you....

you should have the standard m5od trans, isn't the newer m5od shifter the same style?

yes......that is what I am telling you. ALL M50D-R1 transmissions shifters interchange. That is the tranny you have along with all other manual Rangers to present......

i believe to do that you have to change the mechanism out....the actual part that goes into the tranny.....the part that the shift handle attaches too......

With your '93 you should actually have a shorter top cover and stub shaft than the '97-up M5ODs so no you cant just swap the stub shaft from a newer tranny into yours because it will be longer. This is why the hurst shifter comes with the spacer so it can be used on the older transmissions. You can however swap an entire top cover from a '97-up transmisson with the stub shaft in it. It is only held in with 10 bolts and is very easy to swap, however you cant do it with the tranny in the truck...

Why are you wanting to swap to the newer style? the only different shifter that was offered is the FX4 L2 shifter.

theres no advantage into swapping in a level 2 shifter its only cosmetic looks not a shorter throw.

yea but it looks a heck of a lot better than the stock one, and it is not near as problematic as a Hurst...
