Needing some help with a tranny/motor bolt pattern...
i got a 1984 4x4 5 speed ranger with a 2.8 tranny with a 86 2.9l v6 but i was wondering if a 4.0 will fit the bolt pattern on the 2.8 tranny??? any answers out there???

2.9 and 4.0 are the same block, so if 2.8 trans will bolt to the 2.9, then the 2.8 trans will bolt to the 4.0

Thanks bud. Would it makes a difference on wat year 4.0 or all in general will fit.

id say any OHV 4.0. The SOHC 4.0 has almost the same bellhousing, but it is one bolt different IIRC

OHV is from 1990-2000 in the Ranger and the SOHC is 2001-2011
