Not going into gear

My truck has been acting a little weird lately. Sometimes when I put it in drive after I back up I can feel it's not actually in drive and if I take my foot off the brake it doesn't move, I have to put it in 2 or 1 and then I can feel it go into gear. It did the same thing for going into reverse from park once too. I have a feeling it's just because the cable for the gear selector might have a little slack. Is there an adjustment for it somewhere? I know there's an adjustment on the transmission itself, but isn't that for the kickdown?

The cable for the gear selector can be adjusted down at the transmission. There should be a nut with threads on the cable AND shaft.

You just have to be carefull with it, if you are too tight it can pop out of drive and into neutral while driving
