what is the BEST transmission to put in my 99 xlt 4x4. i plan to put a reman engine in when i can and haven't fully decided what engine i want to use. by best i mean bolts up to the most engine types, strongest gears, most torque, or fastest acceleration, passing gear, etc...
i know this is a bit vague, but i know y'all have the answers, and i think it would be great to have all the info in one thread.

 

I have an opinion!

If you're going to upgrade you're engine rather thanreplace with the same, you probably want a 5.0 explorer engine with possible the AOD transmission. You can literally swap all this over from a wrecked explorer.
