Ummm odd 8.8 question
Ok so I was grinding off the welds that held on my aftermarket axle perches that were welded on when my truck was lowered. Well needless to say they didn't want to let go. While in the process of grinding the welds off to get the perches off I notched into the axle app. 1/16 to 3/32's in 2 tiny spots. How thick is this outter wall before I were to actually have caused a break or such? I was looking for a cross-section of the axle itself so that I know how much danger I'm in...

Sweet...I didn't think I had too much too worry about, but better safe than sorry. I talked to one of my 4x4 buddies, and he told me app. 3/8 or better on most tubes and that I was more than ok. He offered me to bring it by his shop and he could run a filler weld alond and around it and then smooth it out for me. He is a welder, some of his work was for NASA and is in space as we speak...the man has tons of stories to tell. LOL

Well the thing is there are no new perches going on. Those were the new perches that had to be welded on when I did the axle flip on my truck to lower it. So I was in a sense removing the old new ones? The weld build-up along the edges of those perches was causing my U-bolts to push out away from the factory perches. Thus causing one side of my axle to stick out further on my drivers side than the passenger. I removed the old perches with the weld so that the u-bolts can now sit properly and it won't look like I'm dogwalking.
Thats what I did when I lowered my truck, so now I removed those lower perches that are in that pic. I added those, now took them off.
