Question about gears at the junkyard
There is a set of 410 gears at the junkyard and it is a LS. I would like to put them in my 7.5. No, I don't want to just wait for the 8.8, don't even ask. What I would like to know is if you would be worried that it had front in collision. I am guessing that it bent up the drive-shaft since there was a bent one sitting on top of the frame (bed is off). Also, someone has taken out the ABS sensor on top of the diff so that would be letting water in. The driverside drum is off to. I just plan on pulling the gears though. How hard is that going to be as in what do I half to do? Think it would be easier just to take the whole thing for a little more and do it at my house? To me the pinion feels alittle loose but I can turn everything inside ok. I could not get the passenger side wheel to move at all. This truck is like an 01 4x4 with 146,000. It has sat there for maybe 3-4 weeks at the most. I will probably pass but I want to know if you guys think it is ok.

But it is not a big deal to me. I have a 4 cyl, not worried about over powering the 7.5 and I will not be ever pulling anything real heavy. And, I would be doing anything to severe off road that I will have to worry about it.

Ya I am going to do it myself. I can buy the whole rear end for $109. I would just leave the casing and gears alone. Put my axles in and bolt my brakes to it and call it a day.
7.5s are junk. Mine shattered ring gear with 31s, still have the rear end and whats left of the gears in a box somewhere in my shop, plus i like the 8.8s 10 inch drum brakes, helps stop the mass that a 4 banger truck should never have on it lol...
But you can, but why not upgrade to something that is twice as strong?
