Question about Transmission Fluid

I have a 2009 Ranger, 5 speed manual and when I had some maintenance done on it last Fall I had the transmission fluid changed. The shop used 75w140 synthetic and it doesn't feel the same when I'm shifting. I questioned the shop and they said it was the right fluid. Should I change it to Motorcraft MERCON V?

Well, I would since it calls for the Merton V....and of course I wouldn't let them touch my vehicles again....

Welcome to the forum

Yes, I would get it changed, you are not under warranty any longer but I would still stick with what Ford recommends, ATF(automatic transmission fluid), Mercon V, you can use synthetic ATF.

ATF, if compared to motor oil, would be a 5w20

Not sure what they were thinking using 75w140 regular or synthetic, some manuals did use that viscosity, but not your M5OD-R1

Yes, that would be way too thick for the M5OD-R1
