OK,
got the 98 xlt off road sport package, flareside, 3.0 and I am curious to the type of increase in the performance level after the 5.0 swap!!!:smileford :

i've done the swap.

so far from driving it, i don't feel any sluggish with 33'' tires and 3.73 gears.

can't say much about how fast i've only gone 30 in it so far :P

 

ok lets say this a 5.0 has tons of after market support. the 3.0 is **** poor for aftermarket and it doesnt respond to mods. you can make a 5.0 as fast as you want. the 3.0 you cant.

if i was going to swap a 5.0 it would not be a stock motor i would do some work to it.

 

all depends what you want the truck to be able to do. you can build a 302 any way you want, theres no certain way to build a motor

 

Being the owner of a '97 5.0 Exploder and a '00 3.0 Ranger, I can say that the only thing you need to know is the throttle response is like night and day.

 

all i gotta say is the 4.0ohv and sohc was a huge difference. imagine a 3.0 6 to a 5.0 v8

 

you cant compare a 3L to a 302.
