Removing the front driveshaft while in the process of replacing a leaky clutch slave cylinder, CV joint came apart, found out it only had 5 ***** in it instead of 6.

Just bought the truck this summer, my kids needed to learn how to drive a stick, hadn't felt any vibrations but never had it in 4wd at road speeds, just around the fields on my farm.

Don't really want to spend $100 for a cv joint when all I need is a ball (if I cant find one, may just put it back together the way it was, been working so far), anybody know where I can get one?

If your kids are going to be driving it, wouldn't you want to just spend the $100 to keep the vehicle safe? Buying used cv's isn't really a good idea unless its just a beater. you won't be able to find just 1 of the ball bearings anywhere. Junkyards will want to sell you the whole assembly

 

The kids (they're still kids in my mind, 17 to 25 years old) would probably only be driving this on the farm/ back roads....and the older ones, only when they come for a visit.

Can you tell this was really just another toy for me?

Probably wind up buying one of the Doorman replacements,(don't trust running it with just 5 *****, even though it's been fine so far) just thought if somebody had a cv joint they were ready to throw away and wanted to sell me a ball...
