Rear axle fluid replacement

Hello. Changing my rear axle fluid and pinion seal(leak) and am wondering should I also use break cleaner on the gears before the new fluid is added also? Videos show ppl cleaning the cover but I haven't seen any with it being used on the gear set. Thanks for any help.

Don't use brake cleaner on your gears. As long as no contaminants are introduced while you replace the seal and you will be fine. If it is a LS rear don't forget to add the friction modifier.

t.Thanks for your time, help, and advice. Luckily the maintenance manual came with the truck and note #6 says to add 4oz of lube modifier :)
