Trans swap help

Ok, first thread ever, and I hate asking for help, I have a 94 ranger, with 2.3 5spd, I'm buying a 95 4.0 auto that needs new tranny, I'm buying a good 5spd to go with it, what parts can I use from the evil to swap the 4.0 to manual,.or, am I better off selling 4cyl and buying a 4.0 5spd, please and thank u for any info, any help is appreciated

Welcome to the forum

1990 and up Ranger manual transmissions do not have detachable bell housings, so each transmission is made separately for the engine it will be bolted to
So a 2.3l trans can not bolt to a 3.0l or 4.0l engine, nor will a 3.0l trans bolt to a 2.3l or 4.0l engine.
All are M5OD-R1(M5R1) models inside, but the outside, the bell housing is different.

So you need a 4.0l M5R1 transmission, also 2WD or 4x4 matters, tail shafts are different

You also need clutch/brake pedal assembly, unfortunately they changed in 1995, so 1994 might work but never tried it, they are listed as 1995-2006 for fitment

Steering column, to get rid of the automatic shifter you need steering column from manual Ranger, 1994 would probably work

Driveshaft from manual, regular cab or extended cab length is different, 2 drive shafts if 4x4, it is not engine specific

Cutout for manual shifter is under the carpet, you need the shifter boot
