Rear Axle Repair/Upgrade Question.

I have a 1995 Mazda B2300 and the other morning I blew my rear end... The stock axle is 7.5" with drum brakes and the differential has 3.73 gear ratio.. My local wrecking yard has a 2011 8.8" axle with disc brakes and the differential is 4.10 gearing with limited slip.

The question I have is will this fit and would it pretty much be a bolt on upgrade/repair.. I know that the explorer axle requires some modification to make it fit but i'm not sure if the newer ranger axle does...

thanks for you help..

Yes, it'll bolt right in. Just nay have to modify the E brake cables with spacers. Just keep in mind that your speedo will be incorrect after the new axle is in because of the gear ratio chsnge.

So it will bolt in but you wont be able to hook up the ABS...

thanks for the responses guys...

Dewey : thanks for the tip, adding a spacer shouldn't be a problem..

Vista4.0 : My current setup is RABS, can i not just hook up the sensor cable to the sensor in the new diff?

The ranger 8.8 with discs had outboard tone rings for the abs. Thus making it a 2 channel. The plug you are talking about doesn't exist on the differential.

So its a better idea is a 2009? will i have any problems if i go with that... i forgot to mention I had already put bigger wheels on so the 4.10 will actually make my speedometer more accurate then it is now.

Well the loud crunching noise upon closer inspection with a friend, we discovered that the noise is actually coming from the tranny. I'm 100% deaf in one ear and I couldn't hear where the noise was coming from while I was inside the vehicle..

The yard has a few M50D-R1 trannys from 2.3 liters but I'm not sure what years are compatible... Can anyone help with this?
