Rear end applications for 2000 4x4

Icon6 Rear end applications for 2000 4x4

Need to replace rear end in 2000 4x4 xlt with 4.0l...looking to find out what other year rear ends will fit and match up to front end...thanks...curt

That would be a 28 spline 8.8, could be anything from 93(?) to current Ranger. The more important thing is matching up the gear ratios. You need to look at either the metal tag on the rear different (may read something like 8.8 3 L 73) or give us the "axle code" listed on the door jamb. Essentially you are looking for a match to that.

OK...axle code is 97...main thing was going to look on craigslist for a used one...will that number match a code on tag on rear end someone has out?
