bad 5 spd driving could be the problem!!

or more realistically...have you done a tranny fluid flush? and how hard is it from shifting gears? i find 1st to 2nd needs a little extra force, and sometimes 1st doesnt go in so smooth, but its nothing too out of the ordinary...my truck has roughly the same km and its an 08

Seafoam trans tune. dump some up that into your trans, run it in first for a while.

If you have a manual transmission, a flush or seafoam will do nothing

raise the rear wheels off the ground and shift into gear. if the rear wheels are slowly spinning the clutch isnt releasing all the way. If the vehicle is hard to get into gear even with the engine off, it has an internal trans problem

with 130k on it, depending on your driving habits, it could be time for a clutch...by that i mean, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and slave.

My bad, didn't catch the 5 speed part.
Sounds like its time for a Clutch (if it hasn't been done yet)

im having the same damn issue. my truck today wouldnt shift into any gear at a full stop unless I shut the truck off then it goes right into gear. when i try putting it in gear it makes a clunking noise almost if it were moving the trans up and down like a bad mount. I did notice that when i tried to put it in gear it would start moving forward or back if I was trying to put it into reverse with the clutch all the way in.

I am also having transmission issues, My 94 Ranger 4.0, 5 speed 4 X 4 will not move when its in gear backwards or forwards almost like the park brake is on except its not. Truck has no 5th gear and was always popping out of 1st gear and now with engine running will not gointo gear, any gear with engine off will go in gear but will not move. with clutch in or out. its deffinetely not the master cylinder. Any ideas?

He said 130000 Kilometers, which is only 80,000 miles. Which leads me to believe its his slave cylinder. If the clutch is toast in 80,000 miles, consider an automatic, no offense.

First off , pull the tranny and replace the clutch , pressure plate , pilot bearing , and slave cylinder . Have the flywheel resurfaced by a machine shop.
As for the transmission ,There is a bushing on the shifter that wears out over time and there is an upgrade kit for it . Use the search button at the top of the pane for shifter or hurst (sp).

Okay, I will pull the transmission and transfer case but why would the 5th gear not do anything but make a grinding noise when I put transmission in 5th ? Has been doing that for at least 6 months, I know that I have to drop the tarnsmission but I am wondering if there is a definitive way to tell if transmission has gone bad?

Do you want everyone to find all the answers for you , or are you too lazy to use the SEARCH BUTTON and find the answers for yourself ?
I already gave you a starting point. Now follow through.

Search for the shifter pack bushing replacement. If the shifter is not sloppy or worn as described when the shifter pack is bad, then take the trans apart and inspect the shift fork for 5th and replace the 5th gear synchro, blocking ring and speed gear.

There are many threads about many things. You dont just go into someones thread and ask an unrelated question and then get upset when youre told to search

Chances are the SLAVE is leaking or has some air in it. Either way I would start by checking to see if the slave is LEAKING. if it is not leaking. Try removing master and the line to the slave, bench bleed it. Chances are if the clutch is NOT slipping, it is not bad and neither is your transmission. My ranger was TERRIBLE to drive. Couldn't access first or reverse without a fight when I stopped and put it in neutral. Turns out I had air in my line. I bought it as a hard to shift nightmare, but after a proper bench bleed (look on YOUTUBE - there is a video with a guy showing you exactly how to do it), and a new slave from ford, it shifts like it should. I probably could have gotten away without the slave as mine wasnt leaking but I realized that too far into the repair lol.

Good Luck.
