Hey guys i was rotating my tires and i noticed grease all in my driverside wheel well. Then i looked down and saw that the outer cv boot was ripped. And now i notice when i turn right the same wheel with the ripped boot makes a metal on metal grinding sound. Do i need to replace the cv joint now too??? thanks

ya i had something similar happen to me on my 4wd colorado...your lucky cause my hub seized as well when my boot ripped(long story)...but ya i would replace it asap

 

i drive 70 miles round trip to work... damn i hope it can last a day or two...

 

They are pretty easy to do. I found my replacement at a local junkyard for $40, with lifetime garentee, and they only take about an hour to install so im not too worried about losing anything .

1. pull the wheel off.
2.pop out the upper BJ. (I used a bottle jack between the UCA and the LCA to pop them apart.
3. pull the hub nut, then use a wheel puller (rented from Autozone) to pusht the CV out of the wheel bearing
4. use a crowbar to snap the inner CV out of the diff.
5. reverse for install.

The hub nut should be torqued to arround 200 ft/lbs. If you are really worried call the dealer. I normally just put on the 18" ratchet and put all my weight on it.

 

mine was bad only made a noise in 4wheel drive though,it lasted about 2yrs like that,just replace it not hard and should take you about 1hr at the most
