Shift Motor Install Question

Looks like I will be changing the shift motor on my son's 94 XLT. It is stuck in 4-low right now. How do I match the position of the shaft on the transfer case to the new motor so everything is in sync? Since the lights on the push-button switches are not lit, I do not know what mode they are in as they have been pushed many times since the fault occured.
Thanks for the help - Bill

That thread should answer any question you might ever have on that shift motor.

you will be able to turn the t-case position with a pair of pliars.......turn it to the 2wd position that is marked on the t-case (the positions are marked)......99.9% of all shift motors are in the 2wd position when new...

its easy, just pull of old one,,, and its got a shape to it so u cant mess it up,, just mark wher eit is etc. and try putting it in 2wd then hittin the motor with rubber mallet. it might slam it in one last time... mine did
