They do leak though. I'm not sure if there is a fix for that.

I LOVE my hurst!! My brother liked my hurst so much, he bought one. My buddy drove my truck and now wants to swap in a manual in his double lifted ranger. My other buddy drove my truck and loved the shifter, his auto trans blew up like 2 days later, now he's a manual with a hurst! DO IT!
I've had mine on for over a year, my brother has had his for over 4 months, and neither leak. There's a 'fix' posted over at RPS that involves rubber sink gasket material with a breather. Some leak, some don't. The gears meshing would be heard more from in the cab due to the boot design and stock shifter and boot being heavily insulated.
And ball position was a little too long of a reach for me with the arm that comes in the kit, so i made a short extention for the shifter to put the ball right where it was perfect: 1" up, 1 1/8" back, 1/4" towards the driver...
(pic might be of when the 1" bodylift was on, but you get the picture..)

No cutting of the stock cupholder/bezel....just cutting of the hurst shift boot to fit the cupholder plastic holes.
Here's pics of my lil brothers install...and a vid. Feel free to add 'vrroooooooom' sounds if you wish. lol.

pic *****? yes i am.

i wanted the shift ball a little higer on mine as well. made a extention on the shift ball end with a all-thread connector and a cut-off 3/8-24 bolt. covered it with a section of 5/8 heater hose. was a little uncomfortable before, just right now. think my extention is about 2" in length.
i have a hurst short throw shifter kit in my 01 edge and i absolutely love it. the gasket it comes with will leak like a champ so you kinda have to make your own out of some gasket material (which you can find at your local napa store or advanced auto) i'd be sure to use a little bit of rtv on it for safe measure as well.
Hurst shifter issues
i have a 97 2.3 l ford ranger and i have the hurst shifter installed and i was wondering if any one who also has it installed car hear the gears turning and making a loud noise like u can hear every thing in ur transmission turning
yeah, its a little noisy. gets better with time. mine made no noise at all in 5th for some reason. the factory shifter is designed to cancel noise. did you take the stock boot off the stock shift lever and see how there is a exterior "bell" of metal around the lever? that and the boot, and the boot on the floor where the shifter stub stuck out through. its a bad side effect of the hurst, but one you cant do much about. the improvement of the shifting is well worth it though. id do it again if i had to do it all over.
