Stuck in Drive, Shifter moves freely

Stuck in Drive, Shifter moves freely
About a week ago my dad tried to put the ranger in park from drive and somehow it broke. The shifter now moves freely and the trans is stuck in drive. What happened here???

Yeah, thats what me and my dad figured. Anyone ever replace one on here?
