I was thinking about getting a trac-loc for my truck. I have the 7.5 rear and I was also going to try and install 4:10's in the rear for now, then also in the front later on.

My question: is the trac-loc a good one to go with? Especially if I can get one for $100?????

Any info is greately appreciated, I was trying to get it before my neighbor sells it to someone else.

one thing to say...if you regear the rear you must regear the front....

I did read that thread, but it mostly talks about other locking diff's. I was wondering if the trac-loc is worth getting and installing? I really don't go heavy off-roading, just normal off-roading (no mudholes that come up to the doors). I want it mostly for light off-road, snow use.

a simple limited slip unit would be fine for you. you can pick them up on like ebay for like under $100.....if you really dont offroad and just want it for snow mostly and you have 4x4 already just get that...

 

get the trac-lok. contact randys ring n pinion for an 8 clutch rebuild kit. ur'll have a tight limited slip for half the price of a new one.

 

Does that kit put more clutches in the diff, or is it just a normal rebuild kit for it?

Get a stock LSD out of another truck that has a 7.5, should suit your needs well. I got a trac-loc from an explorer for $76 shipped for an 8.8 on ebay. Also if you regear only the rear, you can never turn 4wd on until you regear the front.

 

stock is 6, this kit adds 8. works great.

I plan on getting 4:10 gears for the 7.5 rear on ebay, unless someone sells them on here for a decent price. I won't be installing the rear gears until I get a set for the front.
