Tranny/clutch issues

I have a 1996 ranger with a 4.0 5 speed. I recently put a new clutch and pressure plate in. And now when I release the clutch in gear it pops like its stuck in 4 low. I can also go from a dead stop up hill in 5th gear. I need any kind of help you can give me

Welcome to the forum

???
Not sure I understand your descriptions
And is it a 4x4?
You mentioned 4low

So with engine off you can shift transmission into any gear, so shifter arm was put back in to transmission correctly
When you put trans in 1st and let out the clutch its SUDDENLY engages, you can't feather the clutch pedal for slower engagement

Really not sure about the "I can also go from a dead stop up hill in 5th gear......"
That doesn't read like 5th gear in a 2WD
If its a 4x4 then you ARE in 4low

Yes its 4x4. I put a new shift servo for my 4 wheel drive and that hasn't fixed it. But if I spin my tires only the back spin.

Shift motor rebuild article here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...e-shift-motor/

4th picture shows transfer case shifter in 2WD
So pull off the new shift motor and see where its pointed

The transfer case can break and you could have 2LOW
Your BW1354 transfer case uses a planetary reduction gear set that could break and be stuck in LOW, there is another part in transfer case that selects 2WD or 4WD, so while 4low would normally only occur in 4WD it can happen in 2WD if something breaks

Picture here of similar transfer case: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...231PTmSOTF.jpg

The large part on the left is the transmission input shaft and the planetary reduction gear set(LOW)
Just behind that is the 2WD/4WD shifter(its in 2WD now), a collar that will slide back and over the front drive chain gear, which turns the front drive shaft spline on the right front
Rear drive shaft is bolted to the back side inline with the main shaft of transfer case, has a rubber boot on it in this picture

Google: BW1354 rebuild how-to

There should be several articles and maybe some videos on how to split the case and troubleshoot the internals
If you are not mechanically inclined then a used BW1354 may be the best bet, must be 1997 or older model to match front driveshaft interface
