Which Tranny filter do I purchase?

My vehicle has a "D" Transmission (per vehicle door tag) which I think is also a 5R55E but not sure. The question is, do I purchase a filter for a shallow or deep pan style filter? I have looked under the truck at the pan and if I were going to guess, I would say it will be the shallow but not sure. Help!

I'd have to say if yours is 4x4 then it's a deep pan..., if two wheel drive then shallow pan....could be wrong, but believe that's where the diffence lies

That helps a bunch. One more question, tranny pan does not have a drain valve. Should I consider installing one? If so, do you guys recommend a drain valve kit, or purchasing a pan that has a drain already installed and simply change them out. I work in tight quarters and cannot afford to make a big mess by spilling fluids.

I guess that's all personal preference, my thoughts on the drain, is first this is a replacement pan reasonably priced with the plug in it? Or not? I would add one if possible....I don't like messes, so I'd say great idea.....if u are comfortable adding the drain plug then go for it, if not seek out a pan with one already in it...

Good points. Have not been able to find a pan w/drain plug for my particular tranny. If I cannot locate one, I will install a drain. Since I am working in my own "small" garage with limited space, I really don't want to make a nasty mess when dropping a pan full of fluid.

Changing tranny fluid

Plan to do this job sometime next week. I also have a drain plug assembly that I will install now in my possession. Will report on how it goes after completed.
