tranny not shifting properly

Hey guys, i have a 2002 ranger xlt. Fx4 manual. I noticed recently that when i put the clutch in, it won't let me shift into gear right away. I have give it a few seconds and wiggle the shifter to get it in gear.

What could be causing this?

Is that 1st gear at a stop light?

It could be low clutch fluid and/or air in the clutch line, low fluid in the transmission, or something more serious. I'd start there. Mine was doing the same thing last week--having a hard time going into 1st gear at a stoplight--and it was because of low fluid in the transmission. It led me to discover a leaking seal that needs attending to.

im gonna check the clutch and tranny fluid. and yeah it's usually from a stop light. it'll take me about 3-4 tries to get into gear.

Until I could get it home and the problem diagnosed, it helped to first put it into second gear and then it would drop easier into first. Now with the right amount of fluid in there it shifts smoothly. I forgot how smooth it could be. I hope your problem's something so straightforward.

yeah im gonna change the tranny fluid and hopefully does the trick. So far, its not that bad. If i put the clutch in and then wait 2-3 seconds, it goes into first gear or whatever gear no problems. Hopefully tranny fluid does the trick
