Tranny shifter

Has any one ever put a mustang automatic floor shifter or any other type in their truck. Looking to maybe take it off the column. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I've seen a mustang floor shifter put in before. They used the whole center console from the mustang and then used the shift cable from it too. Just had to modify the one end a little and it works fine. It just looked really bad because the mustang console has to sit like 4 inches away from the dash to work right and they never fiberglass ed the gap in.

Welcome army8t1

Welcome to the group. Lots of good information here. As well as lots of fun.

I think if you find something that fits perfectly then do it. I understand the desire to have the mustang one. Looking nice is also good.

Have great success eithier way you go.

New2ford. Thanks for the reply. A lot of information here. I agree on needing to look good. If I do find one in good shape I will probably go that route. I need to find out why my trans linkage is hard to shift first. Thanks again.

Your welcome.

Are you saying it is hard to get out of park to drive on the column shifter? Does the shifter wobble a lot if you just move it back and fourth not trying to shift into a gear?

I removed the connection at the trans and the shifter worked fine. I tried to move the linkage on the trans and it is so stiff I couldn't move it by hand

Ok I'm thinking about that. Can you drive the truck?

Oh yeah it's drivable. Shifts good. Just that stiff linkage is irritating.

Ok. unfortunatly I don't have the answer of how to fix that. I hope someone with more experience comes along to give you a fix for that. Being tight it might beak. Hopefully we can get you a fast answer on that.

Thank you for your service to this country.

I didn't know there was a problem going into this. Never heard of it but did sound pretty bad. Also wanted to attract more people for the issue you have of a tight linkage.

I thought it was just about customization.

Been having fun learning here.

I'm not a pro at anything. I know just enough to get me in trouble or maybe fix it.

Hope you get the linkage fixed soon.
Jim

Hey Jim. Thanks for your support. Without folks back home lending support we would never be able to do what we do. We'll get it sorted out one way or another. Thanks again. David

Thanks again. Just retired in September with 34 years. They told me it was time to go. Didn't want to. Gave me no choice. To old to much rank to many tours. What do you do.
