Trans fluid level?

Recently bought 98 ranger 4 cyl, auto.

Been going through tune-up stuff, and in checking the trans fluid, the level is like 2.5 inches over the cross hatch mark. Is this overfilled? I bought it from a guy who owns a small mechanic shop, and he said he had recently done the main transmission seal.

It does shift a bit rammy into 2nd, but it does have 280K on it.

thanks.

Welcome to the forum

You checked auto trans fluid level with engine/trans warmed up and idling?
It will show over full if engine is off

If over full then yes you will need to drain some out.
You can use a long small hose down the dipstick tube to siphon out extra ATF
