trans swap
trans swap
alright, so I have a friend that has an older mustang that has taken an automatic overdrive from behind a new 4.0 mustang, had it worked over, and put it behind a 351C ! My question is.... is the mustang 4.0, bellhousing pattern different than that of a 4.0 ranger? and again.... is the ohv 4.0 pattern different than that of the ohc 4.0? I really want to take a 5.0 from a exlporer, and set it in my 94 ranger, but I want to keep a 5 spd trans, and run my manual transfer case. I realize that it may not have the strength needed to back up the 5.0, but I believe that if I drive it like a responsible person ( which I am still trying to be ) it may hold up ! I am ready to be slammed on for this so what ever info you have is welcomed !
You don't want to run the ranger stuff behind the 5.0. Besides I am unaware of an adapter that will work. There used to be an adapter for the tcase to a t5 IIRC.
Your best bet will be and F150 setup in the style you want. Besides it will be cheaper than any adapters that you might find.

after looking for a while , I have decided to look in to the trans that came from behind the 4.2, which I am sure that is what you are speaking of? Thanks for your input ! There is a lot of knowledge on this sight, and I knew I could count on someone.
Uh no. I was talking of the trans and tcase that came behind the f150 with a 5.0. Like a 96 and older truck.
I have axles and a tcase from a 78 f250 for my SAS, if I ever get the funds to get it under the truck.
