Transmission Fluid?

When should you change the transmission fluid? I've heard 90,000 miles but when i asked my local mechanic he said unless somethings wrong then i shouldnt change. Which i really dont believe but what should i do? If i need to change it can i do it myself in the driveway or do i have to take it to the shop?

every 30,000 miles is when you should change it its easy to do buy your self a filter kit and fluid from a part store they may ask deep pan or shallow pan deep is for 4wd shallow is for 2wd buy yourself a haynes manual it will be the best $25 you will ever spend another tip if you trans has a reusable pan gasket and is not leaking REUSE it the ones that come with the filter kits are P.O.S
