Transmission flush and subsequent problems

2011 Ford Ranger, Sport, 2 wheel drive, super cab, automatic transmission, 4.0 engine, approx. 60,000 miles. Dealership flushed transmission and changed filter. First drive, vehicle tried to shift to second gear. Initially would not shift, engine revved and then slammed into gear. Problem recurred short time later. Returned to dealership. Said transmission fluid was low, added fluid. Problem continued. At different times, would not engage in drive immediately. Once engaged, failed to shift. Retuned to dealership. Enroute, O/D on/off switch began flashing and vehicle would shift into overdrive.

Dealership says possible faulty transmission filter. Will change and see if problem is solved; if not, have to pull transmission.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum

I assume trans seemed fine BEFORE the fluid change, have to ask

60k is young for the 5R55E.
Have them change the filter and also check the 16 Wire connection for the solenoids

And "a short time later"...........a few days, weeks, months?

OD light flashing means transmission trouble codes were set in computer memory
They/you need to get those codes

Thank you RonD. Sorry I omitted key points. Transmission functioned flawlessly prior to flush. Also, "short time later" refers to a period of a couple of hours.

Update: received call from dealer an hour ago. They have replaced the filter. Said filter was flawed; functions fine now. Will post later.

Hopefully good news

Automatics run on pressure, dirty or bad filter will lower that pressure so "no go" or other problems come up.
Reverse requires highest pressure to engage, which is why people often lose Reverse first when there is a problem.

All is well. Drove several miles without a problem. Thank you for your insight RonD.

Sad that a dealer-installed filter would be defective. At least they fixed it happily and there was no damage done.
