Transmission pan & filter
Transmission pan & filter
Today I had the dealer change the oil in my transmission, 1999 4.0 4X4 with 5 speed auto transmission.
Turns out they did a fluid "flush" and when I asked why they didn't pull the pan and change or clean the filter,
they said it isn't needed when they do a flush. They said there is a mesh filter that catches particles and the
flush will remove the particles. It seems to me they would have to backflush the trans fluid to get the particles
out of the mesh filter, wouldn't that just run the particles back into the trans. I'm not a qualified mechanic, but
it just didn't make a lot of sense to me. They also said removing the pan can cause problems, but didn't say
what problems. Did I just get a snow job from them???
