4R55E Issues
4R55E Issues
Hello everyone!
I recently picked up a 1997 Ranger 4.0 4x4 with 190k miles that needed some love. After a few weeks of driving, I got a code for the TCC lockup solenoid. No big deal (hopefully), fluid didn't smell burnt but wasn't relatively new looking. I dropped the pan, replaced the filter, and checked on the TCC solenoid (It was within the correct ohm range, and clicked when attached to 12v). Everything seemed okay, but for some strange reason there is no drive or reverse now immediately after putting back together! 1, and 2 work perfectly fine and if you shift into drive after shifting into them it shifts without issue other than the revs hang a bit. The O/D light starts flashing, then reverse starts working again without an issue! Turn the truck back off, and reverse doesn't work until the O/D light flashes again. I dropped the pan again to see if I missed anything, but everything seems to be in order. Anybody know what this could be?
EDIT: P0733 and P1701 is the error codes I am getting
Thanks

Welcome to the forum
Really good to post codes, but also post definitions you have with them
P0733 Gear 3 Incorrect ratio
P1701 Reverse Engagement Error
Flashing OD light is because of theses codes
Computer changes to "limp mode" when there is a transmission issue to "get you home"
No reverse is because fluid pressure is low
Reverse needs 175psi
Forward 125psi
You can test solenoids from the 16 pin connector
Maybe a wire got pinched on reassembly or there is a bare spot that is now grounding out
All the solenoids get 12volts with key on
The computer Grounds each solenoid to activate it
If computer doesn't see that 12volts passing thru the solenoid(its just a coil of wire) on its ground wire it will set a "circuit malfunction" for that solenoid, and you don't have that, so probably not a wiring issue
The No Reverse code is correct, you lost reverse, lol, you get it back in Limp Mode, computer could be cranking up the pressure using EPC solenoid
P0733 means computer shifted "gears" but transmission didn't respond
It could be as simple as you have trapped air in the system so can't build up pressure and simply running it will clear out all the air
All automatics run on ATF pressure, no or low pressure = no "gears"
As a last resort you may want to check and change that "new" filter, not sure how but maybe its blocked now
Only common denominator between the 2 codes is system pressure
