2005 Ranger with no PATS, 4.0 auto 4X4 transmission. My question is, can I take a transmission from a 2000-04 and put it in to my 05. A lot have told me that I can only use an 05 or an 06 transmission in my Ranger. However without a PAT system I thought that I was able to use any transmission from a 2000-06. Hopefully somebody can give me the correct information, as I am trying to get another transmission to get my Ranger back on the road ASAP. The output shaft speed sensor was added to these transmissions in 2001, so consider that.
I thought PATS effected ignition and possibly fuel delivery to thwart theft. I never heard the transmission mentioned in a PATS chat.

Is there no chance of having your OE unit rebuilt?

 

I believe it is VATS and yes it only affects the engine. (Doesn't allow it to run for long) If the wiring, output shaft, and bellhouse are the same I don't think there should be any problems.

 

According to car-parts.com they only show 04 to 06 as compatible
