transmission swap

Tried a search but could not find info. I have a chance to buy a 1997 explorer real cheap. The motor is toast but the trany is ok. What i'm wondering is if the trany will work in my truck.

The trucks-- 97 explorer sport 4.0 auto 4x4
my truck- 95 ranger 4.0 auto 4x4

Thanks for the info

David

You'll find a chart there that lists the trannys installed in Explorers and Rangers. If both are 5R55E, you are golden. If not, I don't have the answer for you. I try to steer clear of automatics.

Someone more knowlegable should be along shortly......free bump to the top.

I don't think this will work, the trans from the explorer is missing some of the connectors needed to operate correctly,I.E., the speed sensor on the tailshaft housing might not be there, resulting in no speed signal to the computer, resultingin a CEL.
