I started driving a manual (my truck) before I had my license too, but I see it as more of an annoyance than anything else. If I had a sports car I would want a manual, but as far as trucks go, after this one I am done with them (unless the price is too good to pass up). Out on open country roads and stuff it can be fun, but just going around town it's not.

see i am the other way around i want full control of my truck i dont want a computer telling my truck what gear to be in 99% of the time its the gear i dont want...nothing i hate more then an auto hesitation on shifting that pisses me off the most....plus if the clutch goes i can fix it in a few hours no problem if a auto blows all to hell your looking at a huge bill

Weren't they talking about the 5-speed auto (vs the older 4 speed auto) anyway. If I had to have an auto, I'd rather have the newer 5-speed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Xtian.. Unfortunately I have no significant advice to add.

Yes, they are different.

The 4 cylinders and 3.0L use the 5R44E:

5 = 5 forward gear ratios
R = rear wheel drive
44 = torque rating (~440 lb-ft)
E = electronic

The 4.0L uses the 5R55E:

5 = 5 forward gear ratios
R = rear wheel drive
55 = torque rating (~550 lb-ft)
E = electronic

(You can't swap a 5R55E in place of a 5R44E because the bolt pattern to the engine is different. Plus the PCM calibration would be way off.)
